The Most Difficult Part of Writing

The most difficult part of writing is the blinking cursor, taunting the words that form on the tip of your tongue, but refuse to show themselves. The blank page is a canvas, and you an artist. You wonder how other writers craft their work with effortless excellence. The most difficult part of writing is getting started. In reality, the revving of your literary engine is not all that difficult. While getting a solid start on your next masterpiece might seem out of reach, it is important to remember a few simple writing tips that will help you shake that perpetual writers block.

Write anything. Literally. ANYTHING. Putting words on the page is the hardest part, and if you begin with putting your thoughts into words, your writing will progressively flow and become natural. When getting a start is difficult, it is important to remember that your first draft is almost never going to be perfect. What matters more than the infallibility of your writing is the meaning that stands behind what you have written. The ideas are far more important than the perfection on the page. Get a start, take the leap and write.

Brainstorming, planning and outlining are important factors in getting a start to any piece of writing. While an outline is not necessarily always going to bring success, having a solid set of plans provides a sense of organization and preparedness. Elaborating on ideas becomes far easier with an outline, and expanding on pieces is much simpler. While there is definitely a certain amount of success in free writing, brainstorming can help you to feel far less lost.

Confidence in your writing is vital to your success as a writer. If you believe that your writing is good, you will push yourself to write with more energy. Your writing will take on a new life that you may have not thought possible. Writing comes easiest to the writer that trusts in their thoughts and ideas. Imagine the stories and poems that might be produced if we were not afraid to simply put our thoughts on the page! Believe in yourself and in your writing, and you will see that you can accomplish great things.

While the most challenging aspect of writing is getting a start, the fix to the problem is simple. Write with confidence and preparedness. Every individual has beautiful, unique ideas that should be shared. Understand that your gift as a writer is to have the capability of sharing your incredible, original thoughts with the world. Use your amazing gift, and WRITE!
